the tiger and the spigot consider the stars, installation view, 2024

"no I, no here, no now is about bodies and how bodies are oriented in physical and social spaces. I am interested in arms and legs reaching through space; eyes and the directionality of gaze; body hair, genitals, and the fragility of gender.

I see the body as a point of departure to think about the paths we are supposed to follow and what happens when we stray from them. My cartoon-like figurative style distills personal experiences into the essence of being and being with others. Guided by Sara Ahmed’s Queer Phenomenology, I consider how being and feeling out-of-place can help us know what and where we are. I seek to unearth moments of queer feeling: instances that, through disorientation, present us with new ways of understanding our selves and the world around us.

This body of work imagines an origin myth under the conditions of queer being and being queer. Where does one begin and end when we imagine the possibility of being beyond one’s individual body? As an extension of the landscape? Untied from a linear temporality? To write a queer cosmology, the I must transform into us, here into everywhere, and now into all at once. To conceptualize the radical idea that we are connected to others through space and across time, one must consider the body."
